Introduction to YES BD INDUSTRIES

YES BD INDUSTRIES is a Bangladesh-based global, multi-industry enterprise serving both local and international markets, with manufacturing and sourcing operations in China.

The company operates across multiple industrial sectors, including steel structures and structural components, steel plates, carbon steel, SS 201/304, PPGI, PPGL, GI, GL, industrial roofing profiles, and other steel industry products. In addition, YES BD INDUSTRIES is involved in industrial and commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration industry products, electrical and EV automobile components, agricultural and harvester machinery, solar equipment, CNC laser machines, CNC press brake machines, CNC metalworking machines, concrete block machines, and other industrial solutions.

We are looking for a qualified and motivated Steel Structure Engineer to join our growing team and contribute to the design, estimation, detailing, and execution of steel structure projects.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering from a reputed university.
A postgraduate degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in Structural Engineering will be considered an added advantage.
Professional membership with organizations such as IEB or relevant professional/regulatory enlistment such as RAJUK will be an advantage.

Core Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design for pre-engineered, prefabricated, and industrial steel buildings.
Experience in steel structure estimation, material take-off, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) preparation.
Knowledge of local and international design codes, including BNBC, AISC, ACI, and ASCE.
Ability to prepare structural drawings, fabrication drawings, connection details, and execution plans.
Ability to review structural designs and provide technical support during project execution.

Core Metal & Material Knowledge

Steel Behavior: Understanding the elastic and plastic behavior of steel under different loading conditions and how steel responds after reaching its yield point.
Mechanical Properties: Knowledge of yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, ductility, toughness, and other properties relevant to structural performance.
Material Grades: Familiarity with local, regional, and international structural steel grades and standards, including the effects of alloying elements such as carbon and iron on material performance.
Weldability & Fatigue: Understanding the effects of welding heat on steel and the behavior of steel structures under repeated or cyclic loading.
Knowledge of steel fabrication, corrosion protection, surface treatment, and quality requirements will be an advantage.

Structural Analysis & Design Principles

Load Calculations: Ability to calculate and analyze dead loads, live loads, wind loads, seismic loads, and other applicable loads.
Serviceability & Strength: Understanding the importance of both structural strength and serviceability requirements, including deflection, vibration, and stability.
Structural Stability: Knowledge of buckling, lateral stability, member slenderness, and overall structural stability.
Engineering Calculations: Ability to perform basic hand calculations and independently verify computer-generated structural analysis and design results.
Design Verification: Ability to review structural models and calculations to ensure that the design is safe, practical, and code-compliant.

Connections & Detailing

Critical Connections: Strong understanding of structural connections, including bolted and welded connections, and their role in overall structural safety.
Base Connections: Knowledge of base plates, anchor bolts, column bases, and the differences between pinned and fixed structural connections.
Connection Design: Ability to understand and review connection details, including bolts, welds, stiffeners, gusset plates, and other connection components.
Ability to coordinate structural connections with fabrication and site requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Analysis

Design safe and economical structural steel systems.
Perform structural calculations for dead, live, wind, seismic, and other applicable loads.
Analyze and verify structural members, frames, and connections.

Drawings & Modeling

Develop structural models using software such as STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, or other relevant software.
Prepare structural drawings, fabrication drawings, connection details, and technical documentation using AutoCAD and Tekla Structures.

Estimation & BOQ

Prepare material take-offs, quantity estimates, and BOQs for steel structure projects.
Review project drawings and calculate required steel quantities and related materials.

Code Compliance

Ensure structural designs comply with applicable BNBC, AISC, ASCE, ACI, Eurocodes, and other relevant standards.

Coordination

Coordinate with architects, contractors, fabricators, project managers, and other multidisciplinary teams.
Resolve technical issues and design clashes during project development and execution.

Site Inspection

Visit project sites when required.
Monitor construction and installation progress.
Inspect fabrication and installation quality.
Review site conditions and provide technical solutions to field-related issues.
